Invitation to the Presentation of the Book Our Ordinary Cinema / Nostro Cine Quotidiano
For centuries, cinema screens have captured the reflections of our stories, faces, and dreams. Gorizia, too, has its own grand screen – a tapestry of images, memories, and stories woven into its film culture.
On February 20 at 6:00 PM, we invite you to an evening discussion at Knjigarna Kavarna Maks in Nova Gorica, where we will present the bilingual Slovenian-Italian edition of the book Our Ordinary Cinema / Nostro cine quotidiano. This work, exploring Gorizia’s rich cinematic history, has been republished in 2025 as part of the official program of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, after its initial publication in 2001 by Kinoatelje, edited by Igor Devetak on the millennium anniversary of Gorizia’s first mention.
The book’s author, journalist and film critic Sandro Scandolara, intertwines the city's history with the development of cinema, shedding light on the people, places, and events that have shaped the film culture of this region. Richly illustrated with valuable visual material, the book offers readers an in-depth insight into the cinematic past and present of Gorica.
The discussion about the book will feature translator Janko Petrovec, designer Silvia Klainscek, editor Martina Humar, and Mateja Zorn, program director at Kinoatelje.
The reprint of this bilingual edition is not only a tribute to the author and his legacy but also a significant contribution to preserving and appreciating the audiovisual heritage of this cross-border area.
You are warmly invited!
The book has also inspired a series of film walks dedicated to the stories, characters, places, and films that have shaped the film culture of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. We invite you to join a walk dedicated to Nora Gregor, a film and theater actress born in Gorizia on February 3, 1901, who passed away in Chile in 1949. The walks are free of charge and available in Italian, Slovenian, and English language. Registration via the online form is mandatory. You are welcome to check the dates and register for the walk.
