Explore Gorizia's cinematic heritage with film-themed walks at the crossroads of Italy and Slovenia
Inspired by Sandro Scandolara’s book Nostro cine quotidiano / Naš vsakdanji kino, the project expands its content through five thematic walks.
The walks are offered in Italian, Slovenian, and English. Spots are limited, so be sure to register via the link below
Big Screens: Cinema in Gorizia
From Jesuit experiments in Piazza Grande and early screenings in beer gardens to the city’s first cinemas, this walk traces the evolution of film culture in Gorizia. It explores how cinema adapted during wartime and how it regained its place in post-war life, offering a unique perspective on the city.

Nora Gregor: Diva of Multicultural Gorizia
Nora Gregor, a film and theater actress, was born in Gorizia on February 3, 1901. She starred in European and Hollywood films, including Carl Th. Dreyer’s Michael (1924) and Jean Renoir’s The Rules of the Game (1939). After shining at Vienna’s Burgtheater, she fled Europe during World War II, finding refuge in Chile, where she died in 1949. Her story reflects the multicultural fabric of early 20th-century Gorizia, a crossroads of languages and cultures transformed by war.

- The walks are free of charge and available in Italian, Slovenian, and English.
- Registration is mandatory through the dedicated form.
- All walks will start from BorGO Cinema – Gorizia, Via Rastello 57/59.
- Each walk requires a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 25.
- The total duration of the walk is up to 2 hours (with 1 hour and 30 minutes of walking).
- Registration closes 3 days before the date of each walk.
- In the days leading up to the walk, you will receive an email with a summary of the information.
