Synopsis
Gorizia, September 16, 1947. The border pushed its way between houses and streets, fields and gardens—between people—and divided the world in two. It became both a barrier and a challenge. Those who remember the undivided Gorizia recount their lives with the border, sharing their stories. This documentary captures a fragment of world history through the eyes of a little girl who diligently records her daily experiences of growing up in post-war Yugoslavia in her diary.
This documentary video story is dedicated to younger generations, for whom the border was never an obstacle, but rather an objective and natural feature, like the Soča River flowing alongside it. It is also dedicated to the generation that lived with the border when it was still called the "Iron Curtain."
We aimed to give a voice to those born before this world was divided, whose lives were deeply affected by the border. Their message is for everyone living along any painful border in the world, and especially for all those who cross this border nightly with an unstoppable desire for a better life.
Statement
I was born with this border. My mother was from Gorizia, my father from the Soča Valley. They married, and the border closed firmly behind them. From that moment on, my life, the life of my family, and the lives of all Primorska residents collided with an invisible yet unyielding wall, one that cut through not just streets and gardens but also emotions, thoughts, and expectations.
