Children to Children

2014/2015

The educational project Children to Children was created with the aim of introducing young people to the complex historical topic of World War I and the Isonzo Front, raising awareness about the multicultural identity of Gorica in the early 20th century, and encouraging critical thinking about the values of peace and the horrors of war through audiovisual media.

More than 600 young people from Gorica, Trieste, Doberdob, and Špeter watched the documentary These Were Not Birds during the 2014/2015 school year, which featured testimonies from ninety-year-olds who experienced the horrors of World War I as children. Their honest and moving memories, along with valuable archival, photographic, and film materials, brought young people closer to a part of the history of our region. They learned how important it is to document and preserve personal memories, which allow us to piece together a more complete picture of historical events. This was followed by a professional excursion, where the young people explored both visible and invisible traces of World War I in the urban environment and the nearby areas where the Isonzo Front took place. Under the guidance of experts, the young people expressed their critical reflections on the values of peace and the futility of all wars through film language, and short audiovisual peace messages were created.
