Expression Through Experimentation

The main goal of the educational project Expression Through Experimentation, carried out by Kinoatelje in 2019, was to bring the language of experimental film closer to young people, including the youngest, through moving images. The decision to focus on experimental film stemmed from the idea that knowledge of this unconventional film form allows young people to shape their own original way of free, critical, and tolerant thinking and expression about the world around them.

The project was divided into two parts: the first focused on the education of teaching staff and professional mentors, and the second on the implementation of individual workshops in schools and outside of schools. In this way, we aimed to encourage, on the one hand, deep reflection and thought through the viewing of several films, and on the other hand, allow participants to creatively seek their own expression through audiovisual experimentation, with the help and guidance of professional mentors.

Visions of Remains. Tribute to Žerjal

From unedited material, a montage laboratory was created – an open, free, and creative workshop Visions of Remains. Tribute to Žerjal, in which participating young creators, mentored by Aline Marazzi, reinterpreted the "remains" of Žerjal's films. The selected material, which had been stored (and forgotten) over the years, was handed over to two young editors who spent a week as guests of Postaja Topolove. The resulting work was presented in October at the Tribute to a Vision festival in 2018.
