Kinoatelje has been participating as one of the partners in the project "Establishment and Launch of the Kojsko Fruit Culture Center – K.U.S.A." from July 2022 to June 2023, supported by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. The project is implemented within the framework of the LAS in the Embrace of the Sun program.

The LAS "K.U.S.A." project aims to preserve and revive old and indigenous fruit varieties in the Goriška region, conducted in the collection orchard in Kojsko. The old fruit variety orchard in Kojsko is the only genetic bank in the Primorska region systematically dedicated to preserving, cataloging, and popularizing old and indigenous fruit varieties. In addition to extensive research, locating preserved varieties in the wider region, and planting a genetic bank, two projects were implemented in 2013–2014, resulting in the publications Old Fruit Varieties in Goriška and The Fruit of the Sun.

Within the project, Kinoatelje is responsible for organizing and implementing a sonoric workshop for children. The workshop will pursue two main goals: raising young people's awareness of environmental issues and fostering their creativity. Participants will be educated about the importance of protecting the environment and nature, focusing on preserving old fruit varieties. The second goal of the workshop is to stimulate their creativity by introducing them to the language of film, emphasizing the significance of sound and music. Film creation is based on a team approach, helping young participants strengthen interpersonal relationships. The workshop will take place in May with students from the Miren Primary School – Bilje branch.

The primary aim of the LAS operation is to establish a recognizable tourist attraction that will pride the Municipality of Brda and the entire region. The model orchard of old indigenous fruit varieties can host interested individuals or groups and showcase the value of old fruit varieties, modern approaches to responsible land cultivation, and the marketing and consumption of its fruits. Inspired by similar organizations abroad that work on preserving biodiversity in local areas, the orchard and its activities will also be promoted through modern online platforms and an interactive website.

Within the project, the partners aim to:

  • Ensure conditions for developing new business opportunities in green, cultural, and accessible tourism and other green services and products through the renovation of a covered outdoor reception space. This space will be dedicated to promoting and processing old fruit varieties and hosting visitors (tourists, organized school groups, and interested professionals and the general public).
  • Preserve natural assets, values, biodiversity, and cultural heritage for the sustainable (touristic) development of the area by maintaining and organizing the orchard of old varieties.
  • Promote the culture of fruit-growing and cultivation of terraced landscapes in Goriška through the publication of a book on old fruit varieties and organizing workshops for children, while encouraging environmental conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
  • Contribute to preserving natural values in the region (protection of genetic potential) and traditional local agricultural practices – cultural heritage – by raising awareness of the importance of cultivating indigenous and traditional agricultural plant varieties.
