The Go Green Cinema (GGC) project, led by Kinoatelje in collaboration with the Motovila Institute, offers solutions for greater and more equitable access to high-quality films in the cross-border Slovenian-Italian region. Kinoatelje brings extensive experience in organizing intercultural and cross-border festivals, film events, and audiovisual production, while Motovila contributes expertise in international and cross-sector collaboration and promoting sustainable development in the cultural sector. The project aims to establish a network of cultural venues—Traveling Cinema Soča-Isonzo—on both sides of the border, equipped with modern mobile technology for screening digital cinema content (DCP) in local communities. Through professional training programs, the project will equip technical personnel and cultural-tourism actors to implement innovative and sustainable cultural events, empowering them to engage in the broader European context.

Traveling Cinema Soča-Isonzo will cover the entire cross-border territory (Nova Gorica, Gorizia, Soča Valley, Brda, Vipava Valley, Trnovsko-Banjška Plateau, Kras, etc.), bringing film culture to remote areas lacking adequate infrastructure for professional and high-quality film screenings. It will engage a wide cross-border audience, local residents, occasional foreign visitors, and participants in the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 programs.

In collaboration with external experts, the project will monitor the establishment of the GGC network of green film venues and the implementation of the traveling cinema program to introduce sustainable practices in cultural event organization. The project will produce a publicly accessible manual to assist other actors in the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 area in the green transition process.

The project will collaborate with local actors to develop cultural-tourism offerings that encourage film screening attendees to explore the region’s cinematic and other cultural heritage. Concrete sustainability measures will be implemented in the new cultural-tourism offerings, encouraging visitors to protect the environment and embrace the principles of sustainable tourism.

Public events and activities will take place in 2024 and 2025, but the project is designed with long-term sustainability in mind: the acquired knowledge and equipment will remain available to other cultural event organizers in the cross-border region beyond 2025. Through educational content, the project aims to inspire network partners to continue developing new content and strengthening sustainable local cultural offerings. GGC will provide access to tools and cutting-edge technology, along with knowledge for sustainable event organization and effective collaboration at the European level.

All project communication and film screenings will be available to the public in Slovenian and Italian.

The first activity within the project is professional training for cinema operators on the latest DCP and MP4 equipment.
